Aavalar Consulting is working with an Application Support group within a large client in the Western Suburbs of Philadelphia PA. Currently the group provides support for many Oracle based applications in production and development environments. The role of the group is growing to support enterprise applications and they are moving these applications into production. Our client has engaged with us to provide an Oracle DBA who will work closely with development support, tech support, operations, etc. in a 24×7 environment. Responsibilities include Oracle product configurations, installations, integrations, and help in architecture designs. The successful candidate will also work with development team on daily basis responding to adhoc requests, deploying changes and optimizing processes using various tools, utilities, scripts, etc.
Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate a detailed knowledge of Oracle database definition, structure, documentation, long range requirements, operational guidelines and protection strategies. Candidates must also demonstrate ability to install and configure Oracle RAC on UNIX/Linux platforms and diagnose and resolve performance issues.
Really excellent communication skills are a must.

Who does this position will report to?:
Director of Technical Services
What is the start date ?: ASAP
What is the size of group?: Approx 6-10
~Install, configure, upgrade, and manage Oracle databases
~Manage system issues, performance tuning, backup/recovery, and replication
~Configure disk storage
~Work with other teams to efficiently configure and deploy infrastructure components which support the Oracle database, this includes networking to provide data comm services and storage team to configure storage resources
~Run diagnostic tools to identify database performance bottlenecks, and take appropriate corrective actions to improve database performance
~Monitor Oracle databases
~Troubleshoot Oracle performance and non-performance related issues and support testing.
~Manage backup/recovery for Oracle instances
~Develop scripts to automate repetitive tasks
~Respond to support requests
~Provide support for all stages of database implementation from development through QA and production
~Control access privileges and permissions with a close attention to security
~Provide input on database documentation (standards, procedures, scripts)
~Monitor and improve database performance and capacity utilization to provide high database availability and redundancy
~Participate in an on-call rotation as part of a leveraged team working across multiple time zones
Role with the group : Senior Oracle DBA
~6+ Years of hands-on experience as and Oracle DBA in an enterprise development and production environment
~Strong Oracle production support experience
~Hands on Oracle RAC Experience
~Operational experience with Oracle Exadata
~BS degree in comp. sci, engineering, etc. or equivalent
~Solid experience with Oracle 11g and 12g database administration
~Some hands on Oracle CDC Experience
~Some hands on Oracle Golden Gate Experience
~Knowledge and experience in Unix operating system and scripting languages (Shell, Perl, etc.)
~Experience using Oracle back-up and recovery configuration and procedures
~Very strong written and verbal communication skills
Desired Skills and Experience:
~Understanding of server clustering techniques and the impact on database configuration and performance
~Some SQL Server experience
~Hands on Oracle RMAN
~Experience with Execution Plans and how to use/modify them
PL/SQL tuning and trouble shooting experience
